As you pass by the window,
Of a building that has been long vacant,
Something unusual catches your eye.
Curious, you take a step back,
To see what’s inside.
To your great surprise,
Where ugly gray walls once stood,
There was now a room of gleaming white,
Lanterns and bunting of the same brilliance hang from the rafters,
Mirrors and a hand bar lining the walls are the rooms’ only decorations.
Standing alone in the middle of this room,
In a gown of satin, tulle and lace,
Is a lady tall and lithe,
With a look of intense alertness on her face,
Her beauty steals your breath away.
Suddenly music begins to play,
A long, mournful ballad of old,
She draws a deep breath and lifts her head and arms,
Rising on her toes, she begins to dance,
Grace and beauty in every step she takes.
With every pointe and pirouette,
Every move her lithe body makes,
She tells the story of a long lost love,
A true love,
Never again to be embraced.
Her concentration’s so deep,
Her expression is ever changing,
So lost in the story she’s telling with her body,
She isn’t aware of you, the audience that has gathered at her window,
Each of you, as mesmerized by her story as the next.
As the last lonely chord of the music dies away,
A last step the lady of grace makes.
A moment of silence is all that’s allowed,
To catch the breath that she had stolen,
The moment she began to dance.
With a jerk of surprise,
She comes back to reality,
Through the sudden cheers and applause,
She has so innocently earned,
From you, a new crowd of admirers gathered outside in the cold.
She stands to her feet,
In one graceful move,
Along with a sweet smile of modesty,
She shows us her thanks and gratitude,
By a deep, graceful curtsey as she blows us a kiss.
She begins to walk away,
And is startled to a stop,
As you, her audience of new fans
Scream, “encore, encore”,
Not wanting her dance to end.
To your delight she walks back to the middle of the floor,
With a blush and sweet smile she waits for the music to begin once more,
As the music starts to play,
She gets so lost in the dance once more,
She falls and breaks her leg.
